In Situ Design sums up the theoretical position embodied in the work of New York architect George Ranalli. Over the past 32 years, George Ranalli has worked on projects in New York, other states in the U.S., and across the world that have involved large-scale urban design, houses in the landscape, additions, renovations of major landmark buildings and new constructions * George Ranalli is internationally celebrated and published for his work in historic settings, National Register Historic Landmark buildings and settings with rich design and craft traditions. In Situ is his operational strategy in the design of these new buildings and additions to these complexes, providing contemporary and creative structures that also blend in seamlessly with their historic environments * The projects have developed a rich craft and design vocabulary, which links this work to the origins and roots of the longer craft tradition in design and architecture.Edition: Hardcover in a clamshell box with DVDSize: 9.45 x 8.45 in / 240 x 215 mm Format: LandscapePages: 496Publication date:  2015 Language: EnglishPhotographs: 455Illustrations: 690Weight:2.9 kgsRights:World Rights AvailableISBN:978-988-16194-7-1. Book's Review

Amazing Book - 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Amazing Book By RC In Situ: George Ranalli Works and Projects is an amazing book. Although I am not an architect, I hope to do it justice. The book is a treatise on contrast in context. Acknowledging differences between people and architecture, the work pursues unity through an enriched, functional aesthetic. Geometric form, easily associated to the built environment. outlines broad themes, softened by offshoots, such as a certain slant of sunlight, speckled brick, curves, terra cotta, brass, bronze, and something I’ve have always loved about Ranalli’s work - plywood. The uses of practical, reasonable materials make for sophisticated design. Having lived my whole life in the City of New York, I can’t help but notice the work’s mindfulness about people. Architecture rambles ‘off the grid,’ adding variety, and ornamental elements enthuse delight. All this is done with an eye toward people, their practical uses, and their economics, another nod to the humans that makes the architecture real, and New York a little more New York.

Although many more to come, the publication shows the overall architectural mastery of George Ranalli through out his decorated career. This book is also academically special, since it displays his commitment to the details, drawings, and craftsmanship of architecture. His work ethic and approaches to his work are well displayed within this volume. 'In Situ' is a must buy for all serious architects and students of architecture.
